Complete Hotels Services was set up in August 2008 by Robert Smith in order to provide affordable and effective operational, sales and marketing consultancy services to hotels.

Robert Smith was previously an Executive Director of Paten Hotels, an independent group of 3 and 4 star hotels based in Colchester, Bedford, Stratford upon Avon and Portsmouth. The group was sold to BDL Hotels in a deal in excess of £40 million pounds in April 2008.

During his sixteen years at Paten Hotels he held the positions of General Manager, Regional Manager and Sales & Marketing Director ( a main board position). He created the sales & marketing department from scratch in 1996 ensuring that Paten Hotels became very recognisable to all UK hotel booking agents and  fully embraced the arrival of the internet quickly realising that it was an immense and affordable tool for independents to use when competing against the corporate hotel groups. 

He became an active member of the HBAA - Hotel Booking Agents Association - partner hotels and served on the committee for 5 years and was chairman in 2006. In 2005 he took two of the Paten Hotels into membership of Best Western Hotels and susequently represented the Central West region on the BDF (Business Development Forum) of Best Western Hotels.   

Previous to working for Paten Hotels Robert Smith completed a trainee management scheme with Grand Metropolitan Retailing and worked as an assistant and general manager for a number of small hotel groups.
